13535_746027168685_27401709_42955023_4646540_nThe Seattle Mist take their 2-0 record on the road this week to face the 2-1 Los Angeles Temptation. Awhile back I had a chance to chat with Seattle Mist’s very own, Harper Boiz. Enjoy the read!

Matt Field- Thanks for the time Harper. How’s the team looking? How important has the coaching staff been in getting the team ready for Friday night?

Harper Boiz- The team is looking great and the coaching staff has been extremely important in getting us ready. The coaches are the core and foundation to our “family”. They provide discipline, structure, knowledge and direction. Our team is very fortunate to have an amazing head coach, Coach Rob Long, as well a very well rounded staff. The coaches have molded us into the players and family that we are today. We truly owe them everything – Thank You!

Matt- Seems that it is all coming together nicely. How did you get your start in the league?

Harper- I first heard about the league a day or two before the Seattle tryouts from one of my co-workers. Having grown up with two brothers and being an athlete with a huge love for sports, I thought I would check it out. Seattle’s tryout was every guy’s fantasy. Wet, muddy, girls playing football. I immediately fell in love with the league and have been a Seattle Mist ever since.

Matt- Well, the league definitely has the attention of men worldwide. Besides the obvious, what will fans be most impressed by when they attend the games?

Harper- Yes, fans will enjoy beautiful women playing football in lingerie. But not only that, we can play! We have a few tricks up our sleeves, don’t expect us to just run the ball every play. Fans will be impressed by how diverse the talent is on our team. The football world will not know what hit them!

Matt- Can’t argue with you there. I have seen the girls practice and play, there is some serious talent on the field. What does Harper Boiz bring to the game?

Harper- I am a competitior, I have been my whole life. I refuse to lose. I know the game and all the positions. I am focused on my craft and making what I do on defense flawless. I know the power of repetition and will practice until perfection is achieved. I want the Mist to go all the way to the Championship and come out victorious.

Matt- As I have been meeting the players, the fire that the girls have for this game is amazing. What keeps you motivated?

Harper- A hard day’s work motivates me. I don’t like to be given things easily. When you work hard to earn something, there is a sense of pride, self-satisfaction and accomplishment. I know what I want out of life and what it will take to get there. Ultimately, I think that my future is what motivates me and the curiosity of what it can be.

Matt- Sound like you know what you want out of life. What are some of your interests off the field?

Harper- I love to dance. I love nutrition, I majored in it in college. I love to run. Reading and writing have always been favorites of mine. I am obsessed with traveling and learning about other cultures and outlooks on life. I love being near water and for the most part, I just like to stay busy. Rarely do I ever have a “down” day where I just sit on my butt and watch TV.

Matt- No TV?! What about the NFL? Do you have a favorite player?

Harper- I play defense so I like to watch and study individuals that play the same position that I do. The position of cornerback goes hand in hand with the name Deion Sanders, but I also have to say Marcus Trufant, of the Seattle Seahawks of course! He is not only a very physical player but can pick off a pass as well.

Matt- I’ve been asking all the questions. How about you tell me five things that the fans should know about Harper Boiz.

Harper- I am a vegan ( no meat, dairy or animal byproducts of any kind) I’ve been that way my whole life. I Hawaiian dance and play the native instruments as well. Old foreign films with subtitles are my favorites, I also enjoy good slap-stick comedy. Strangely, I am allergic to cinnamon, not many people are. The chose the number 5 on my uniform in memory of my father.

Matt- I admire your vegan lifestyle but I still stand by my theory- If God didn’t want us to eat animals, then he wouldn’t have made them out of meat :-) No animals have been injured in the making of this blog. I digress.

So you know and study game, that is noted, but can you ‘trash talk’?

Harper- Ha! Not sure my best stuff is appropriate, but here goes nothing… “Did you like that tackle?! Because your boyfriend did last night!” or “We’re going to beat you so bad, you will think your married to OJ!” and my favorite after a tackle “you might as well just stay down there, that’s all your good for anyways!”

Matt- Outstanding stuff! Thanks for the time and good luck on Friday!

untitledAlright guys, the princess of the picks, Shannon Martin, is making her return this week to the NFL Pick ‘em challenge. I told Shannon that I would set up something special for her comeback this week. I thought, what would Shannon enjoy more than anything, and then it hit me. If I know Shannon at all, 7420_1228639043589_1457471325_30698134_7116344_sshe would love the opportunity to beat yours truly at his own game. So, as my welcome back gift to Shannon, I accept this weeks NFL Pick ‘em challenge. Good luck to Shannon and even more to me :-D

NFL Picks Week 11

Dolphins @ Panthers

Shannon- Panthers – On a roll after last weeks win.

Matt- Dolphins – Miami will rally around Ricky Williams and the Wildcat.

Colts @ Ravens

Shannon- Colts – They are coming off a great win last Sunday night and are full steam ahead. My gut tells me the Ravens may surprise though.

Matt- Ravens – Colts are not quite as strong on the road and outdoors. The Ravens won’t hand the game over like the Patriots did last week.

Browns @ Lions

Shannon- Browns – Just because..

Matt- Lions – Just because..

Redskins @ Cowboys

Shannon- Cowboys – Romo needs to find some momentum and I think it comes this week.

Matt- Cowboys – Back to reality for the Redskins after the upset over Denver last week.

49ers @ Packers

Shannon- Packers – It’s a home field thing. Don’t think the Niners can hold down the Packers offense.

Matt- Packers – I would be more than happy to be wrong on this one.

Steelers @ Chiefs

Shannon- Steelers – They will bring it against the Chiefs!

Matt- Steelers – An angry Steelers team will come to play and stomp the Chiefs.

Falcons @ Giants

Shannon- Giants – New York is dying for a win, home field will be the difference this week.

Matt- Falcons – Atlanta is dying for a win and home field won’t mean a thing as the Falcons upset the Giants.

Saints @ Bucs

Shannon- Saints – Too much for the Bucs to handle.

Matt- Saints – Agreed

Seahawks @ Vikings

Shannon- Vikings – A Minnesota victory dedicated to the greatest guy I know, Matt Field. Did I mention how wonderful and perfect Matt is?

Matt- Vikings – I’m blushing Shannon, but couldn’t agree with you more. Oh, and I also pick the Vikings to dominate.

Bills @ Jaguars

Shannon- Jaguars – They are starting to put it together in Jacksonville.

Matt- Bills – The new coach lets T.O. loose and Bills win.

Cardinals @ Rams

Shannon- Cardinals – Has anyone seen the Rams this year? Yuck!

Matt- Cardinals – Rams played the Saints tough last week, just don’t see a win here though.

Chargers @ Broncos

Shannon- Chargers – Orton won’t be 100%

Matt- Chargers - Will the real Denver Broncos please stand up?

Jets @ Patriots

Shannon- Patriots – They are steamed and Bill will not make such a mistake again.

Matt- Patriots – The defense has something to prove to the coach and the offense will pick up where it left off.

Bengals @ Raiders

Shannon- Bengals – What a surprise they are this year.

Matt- Bengals – Raiders change quarterbacks only to get the same results.

Eagles @ Bears

Shannon- Eagles – The Bears are already in hibernation.

Matt- Eagles – Too much offense for the Bears to handle. It’s tough enough to get past their own quarterback’s mistakes.

Titans @ Texans

Shannon- Texans – Gotta go with the home team with two such evenly matched teams.

Matt- Titans – Tennessee is playing like the team of last year.

Things get ugly in Miami, Krystal Gray suspended

Monday, November 16th, 2009

In the aftermath of Friday night’s altercation between the New York Majesty and Miami Caliente, Commissioner Mitchell Mortaza has suspended New York Majesty’s Krystal Gray for one game.

“We hold our front office, coaches and players to the highest standards. The actions of several players and specifically Ms. Krystal Gray will not be tolerated. While we understand LFL athletes are passionate and we play an intense game, our players must also appreciate that as professional athletes they are role models and need to act accordingly.

My office will be addressing Friday night’s altercation with each individual involved in the coming days. We will not allow our games to be overshadowed by the misguided actions of a few individuals.”

Miami Caliente’s Michelle Stevens chats about nachos, Megan Fox and X-ray vision.

I had a chance to get in a few questions with Miami Caliente’s, Michelle Stevens. Enjoy the read.

Matt Field- Hey Michelle, thanks for taking the time to catch up with Unlaced today. How did you first get involved with the Lingerie Football League?

Michelle Stevens- I was actually recruited by one of the players last year who I was friends with. Apparently the team had lost several players and the league was looking to replace them before the lingerie bowl so they were having late season tryouts. I showed up, gave it my all, and like they say, “the rest is history!!!”

Matt- Congrats on making the team. What has been the biggest challenge this season?

Michelle- Time management. I started this season off enrolled full-time in a graduate program, working a 9-5 job as well as a 20 hr/week internship, and I have 2 lil’ boys to tend to…throw football in the mix and I’m left with about….hmmmm ZERO free time. I love my life though and I love that I have so much going on, I just wish I had more hours in my day!

Matt- Have you been approached or recognized as a LFL player? Any horrid pick up attempts?

Michelle- Yes I have been recognized several times. I think it’s awesome because that means that the league is getting their name out there and people are starting to pay attention.

Worst pick up attempt….God there are so many but in this moment I can’t think of one, so maybe I’ve just blocked them out. BUT the BEST pick-up attempt is, “Hey, how are you, my name is (insert name here), would you like to go out some time?” Ahhh yes! Very refreshing ;-) Although, I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard that one.

Matt- What does Michelle Stevens bring to the game?

Michelle- I bring a lot of heart, determination, and fight. I’m one of the smaller girls in the league; I’m 5′5 about 105 lbs, but I will fight like I am 5′8, 145 lbs and I won’t stop till the game is over, actually, till the season is over.

Matt- What has been your greatest accomplishment off the field?

Michelle- My two little boys, Jake and Ryder. They have been my greatest accomplishment, they are truly amazing and they have added so much to my life.

Other than them, I would say my recent graduation with my Masters in Psychology and finishing my first marathon in under 4 hours.

Matt- Interests off the field?

Michelle- My kiddies, school, running, traveling, family, friends and about a million other things that make life worth living.

Matt- So, you’re a great football player. What else can you do better than the boys?

Michelle- Just about everything :-D

Matt- Do you have any celebrity or NFL crushes?

Michelle- Channing Tatum, Tyson Beckford and Megan Fox.

Matt- If things don’t work out between Megan and myself, I will be sure to give her your number :-P Craziest thing you have ever done?

Michelle- I plead the fifth!!! Seriously though, I’d get myself in A LOT of trouble!!!

Matt- If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Michelle- X-ray vision, I mean, COME ON! Why? Do I really need to answer that??? Didn’t think so ;-)

Matt- Ha! X-ray vision, Megan Fox, crazy things you can’t even share. Any other guilty pleasures?

Michelle- Massages, red wine, peanut M&M’s and a huge plate of nachos and cheese with fresh salsa.

Matt- Getting back to football, how important has the coaching staff been in preparing the team for the season and each game?

Michelle- The coaching staff has been essential in getting us ready for this season. We are a team of 20 girls, with only 6 out of those 20 having any sort of football experience whatsoever. Clearly the coaches have had a huge job to undertake in terms of teaching us the game of football and how it’s played. They’ve had to start from the basics: teaching us routes, plays, blocking, wrapping up, breaking down, cutting, etc. They’ve had to hone in on our natural abilities and transform those abilities into skills. They’ve had to do in 4 months with us girls what most coaches have had years to do with our male counterparts. That’s truly amazing and I am very thankful for all they have done for us.

Matt- Let’s wrap with your best trash talk. Lay it on us.

Michelle- I can’t say I trash talk…I don’t think it’s necessary. I have very expressive eyes, with just one look, one glare, I can evoke more intimidation in my competition than I could ever hope to convey with my words.

Matt- Thanks for the chat Michelle and good luck.

Joey Davenport

So after last week’s NFL picks and a tie between Shannon Martin and Joey Davenport, Joey had decided to challenge the fans once again. I just so happened to find an eager LFL diehard, Pat Moore is ready to step up and throw down his week 10 picks. This is the toughest week yet, an undefeated Colts team hosts the Patriots, battle of the beatables in Kansas City vs Oakland, and the Bengals travel to the Steel City to face the Steelers for the division lead. Good luck!

Pat_Moored

Pat Moore

Bears @ 49ers

Joey- Bears – Looking for Cutler to have a great day.

Pat- 49ers – My roommate likes Chicago and it makes me happy to see him upset when the Bears lose.

Falcons @ Panthers

Joey- Panthers -  Atlanta is not playing as hungry as Carolina right now.

Pat- Falcons – Atlanta defense should hold down Caroling pretty well.

Bucs @ Dolphins

Joey- Dolphins – Tampa’s defensive coordinators still trying to figure what to do.

Pat- Dolphins – If I’ve learned anything from Will Smith, I know that Miami is where the heat is on.

Lions @ Vikings

Joey- Vikings – The sky is the limit with this Vikings offense.

Pat- Vikings – Lions have 2 of their last 32 game, enough said.

Bengals @ Steelers

Joey- Steelers – Close game but Big Ben shines in a game winning drive.

Pat- Steelers – The offense is looking good after last week.

Bills @ Titans

Joey- Titans – The Vince Young led Titans don’t look that bad.

Pat- Titans – T.O. won’t taste victory this week.

Broncos @ Redskins

Joey- Broncos – This is going to be a blowout!

Pat- Broncos – Denver’s defense is going to hit Washington hard.

Saints @ Rams

Joey- Saints – St Louis surprises but will come up short in game closer than anyone expected.

Pat- Saints – St Louis hasn’t been the same since Kurt Warner left.

Jaguars @ Jets

Joey- Jets – New York is just a better team.

Pat- Jets – Pretty even matchup, have to go with the home team.

Chiefs @ Raiders

Joey- Raiders – Low scoring and tons of penalties in this one.

Pat- Chiefs – Being a Denver fan, I don’t think I will ever pick the Raiders.

Seahawks @ Cardinals

Joey- Cardinals – Fitzgerald and crew too much for the SeaChickens to handle.

Pat- Cardinals – I have another roommate that is a Seattle fan, fun to cheer against him as well.

Cowboys @ Packers

Joey- Cowboys – Dallas looked pretty good last week.

Pat- Cowboys – Dallas has a nice pass rush this year, that will rattle Rodgers and the Pack.

Eagles @ Chargers

Joey- Chargers – Rivers is doing a great job.

Pat- Eagles - McNabb is looking good this year.

Patriots @ Colts

Joey- Patriots – New England powerhouse rolls over Indy, Manning will get rattled.

Pat- Colts – Will be a close game but the Colts will pull out the win.

Ravens @ Browns

Joey- Ravens – How did this game get on MNF? Baltimore wins in a snoozer.

Pat- Ravens – Baltimore’s defense against Cleveland’s offense? The Browns will be lucky to get a field goal.

Gameday Preview: Miami vs New York

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Miami_Caliente-150x150After a stunning win last week at Philadelphia, the Miami Caliente (1-1) made a statement to the entire league. Philadelphia was not only the favorite to win last weeks game, but a contender to win the championship. Miami traveled to Philly and pulled off a huge upset and are flying high coming into this LFL Friday Night game versus the New York Majesty (0-1).

Comparing these two teams is interesting. So far they have each played a common opponent, Philadelphia. Here is a quick review of the New York and Philadelphia game. It was New York’s first home game and the Passion smashed them 40-6. New York had some potential but for the most part struggled. The success of the team relies on quarterback #1 Krystal Gray.  They scored on the opening drive but didn’t muster more than that. The Passion dominated.

Miami traveled to Philadelphia for the Passions first home game. On the road they battled an Eastern Conference favorite and took care of business. The team played far better than they did in their opener versus the Chicago Bliss. They ran the ball down the throats of the Passion and won the game 37-26.

Now Miami and New York are set to clash in Miami. Based off the performance of each teams first games, it seems Miami will be a clear cut favorite to win the game and help themselves clinch a playoff spot.  Everyone expected Miami to be a pass heavy team but they pounded the rock success last game behind the legs of running back #18 Kiki Toombs. She single handedly blew away the Passion defense and if Miami can run the ball like they did versus the Passion, then they have no reason to pass the ball.

NY-Majesty2-150x150New York is still a young and talented. They are under new coaching and a new playbook. We should see improvements in terms of their offense as they become more comfortable with the plays. Don’t expect perfection however, most teams had since May to learn the plays, and New York has had about a month. This team has loads of raw talent, but as of now their only consistent game changer is Krystal Gray. Gray is going to literally carry the team if they are going to keep up with Miami.

If the Majesty can find a way to establish the run, it will open the pass and that is where they can come up with big plays. Gray will need to find ways to try and trick Caliente safety #11 Tina Caccavale. She is a game changing defender and played huge in the game versus the Passion with seven interceptions and getting involved in 7 tackles, three of them solo.

But just like last week, anything can happen in the LFL. One week a team can be on top and the next week everyone can be questioning everything about the team. The Eastern Conference is wide open for the taking. Miami can make strides toward a playoff team and New York can prove to everyone that they should not be written off. It looks to be an exciting game and there should be plenty of highlights from the game.

“Sometimes the more you do for people the more they will disappoint you.” ~ Meg Liz Miller, Miami Caliente

n695072514_831600_4344

Reading these words in a text from Meg Liz really hit me today.  I started to think what gives Meg’s statement validity?  Easy enough, it’s not hard to understand.  Investing our feelings, emotions, energy and time into others can either be a primer to an amazing relationship with them or to set ourselves up to be seriously hurt if they turn on us or end in failure.

Caring for people isn’t something that’s natural to the human spirit.  WE are all selfish and at the end of the day everyone has motives.  It’s up to us to decide if those motives are hidden and if they are going to be harmful to us in the long run.  Will they place their motives over the value of your friendship/relationship with them? What I mean by this is while we ought to not change our character or personality after being hurt or let down by someone we can avoid being hurt in the future by being proactive in learning from our past.

I truly realized this year that not everyone is a good person, has a good heart or has good intentions.  I completely misconstrued a statement my dad said to me when I was younger, “a true leader looks for the good in others and points it out to them when they can’t see it themselves”.  Somehow I tried to find the good in every person in my life and I completely missed multiple signs that pointed out that certain people are not the kind of people I want in my life. Looking at all people who come into my life I really set myself up to be hurt.  Which brings me back to Meg’s statement, sometimes the more we do for people the more they disappoint us…  it’s because doing something for others involves investing ourselves into them.  When they let us down, hurt us, exploit us, it’s like we lost a part of ourselves to them.  What hurts even more then being let down by them is realizing what kind of person we were let down by and how we let them get the best of us.  It’s a pride thing.  So many times this year I have thought to myself “how could I have been so stupid and naive to let this person get to me like this,” The answer is… because I cared enough about them to let them in my life and to get involved in theirs.  Ill keep caring about the people that come in my life and hopefully I’ll be more selective with exactly who I chose to care for and be cared for by. This way the stats on who stays in my life will be more in my favor then the stats of those I continue to lose that never really cared for me anyways.  After all I really hate losing.

taramarie2

Tara Marie is the blue-eyed blonde bombshell who plays wide receiver for the Tampa Breeze Lingerie Football Team.It was a dream day on Clearwater Beach, Florida during a circulation of incredible thunderstorms surrounding the location of the photoshoot. It seemed wherever Tara Marie stood the air stood still. Heaven is probably the best way to describe the photoshoot. Tara Marie originally from New Orleans, Louisiana came to Tampa, Florida to be the perfect team mate for the Tampa Breeze football team. The Lingerie Football League filled with sexy women who compete nationwide to in the game of “Yes” tackle football. They take the game seriously and they practice on a regular basis. “The Tampa Breeze have some of the sexiest women out of all the teams”, says Tara Marie, with a wink. While away from the field she is winning a bikini contest or blazing the clubs with her hot friends/team mates. Her southern sweetness and colorful personality combine for a beautiful person inside and out.

An Interview with Tara Marie:

Where are you from? New Orleans, LA

How did you get interested in playing football for the lingerie football league? I’ve never played a sport in my life! I LOVE watching football and basketball, but never wanted to play basketball. As soon as i heard that there was a WOMEN’S football team, i fell in love with the idea and HAD to be apart of it! Especially due to the fact that we get to look sexy in lingerie while playing! PERFECT!!

How’d you get into modeling? I was approached a few times for some modeling projects and it just grew from there.

How does someone contact you to hire you for a modeling project? www.modelmayhem.com/taramarie18 or www.myspace.com/taramarie828

What do you like most about playing lingerie football? Don’t get me wrong, we look amazing playing in our cute little uniforms, but we don’t play around!!! We play full contact football! We wear pads and helmets and REALLY tackle! I love being a part of a great group of girls that support each other every single day out on that field.

Is Tampa Breeze sexier than Miami’s Lingerie Team? DuH!!! lol… I think we are the sexiest team in the league!! Although, Miami does have some hotties on their team, you can see for yourself when we play them on January 22nd in Miami.

What position do you play? I play WR and corner. We all have to play an offense and defense position.

Are you a good dancer? of course!!

Thong or Granny Panties? thong!
