Shannon Martin

Posted by Matt Field

Shannon has been taking it easy on the fans so far, this may be the week that she comes to play and takes down her first fan challenge of the season. Last week was on fire with a mark of 10-3 and was beat out by fan, Nolan Grady, who came in with a 11-2 record. The Giants game burned both of them last week as Arizona surprised with a victory.

Brandon Kending

Brandon Kending

This week Shannon goes up against Brandon Kending. Good luck to both.

Week 8 Picks

Seahawks @ Cowboys

Shannon- Cowboys – They are due to go on a streak.

Brandon- Cowboys – Romo is heating up and he’s my fantasy quarterback, I need a big game out of him!

Giants @ Eagles

Shannon- Giants – Eli is still bitter about the loss last week.

Brandon- Giants – It is a good day to be a Manning.

Texans @ Bills

Shannon- Bills – After a win on the road last week, Buffalo comes home to continue the streak.

Brandon- Texans – Mainly because I hate T.O.

Rams @ Lions

Shannon- Lions – Yuck! Horrible game, horrible teams, I’ll take the home team.

Brandon- Lions – Wow, the clash of the titans, Rams are the new Lions. Lions win.

49ers @ Colts

Shannon- Colts - Matt? Really? You had to ask?

Brandon- Colts – Peyton cleans house as he gets the evil eye from Singletary.

Browns @ Bears

Shannon- Bears - Come on Cutler, get on your horse and win

Brandon- Bears – Chicago will be fired up after last week.

Broncos @ Ravens

Shannon- Broncos – So proud of the home town team, keep it going on the road boys!

Brandon- Ravens - Will be a close one, Ravens win 10-7.

Jaguars @ Titans

Shannon- Jaguars – The Titans are off the radar, Jags win.

Brandon- Jaguars – Tennessee won’t get their first win this week.

Raiders @ Chargers

Shannon- Chargers – Will be a fun game but the Chargers have more talent.

Brandon- Chargers - LT finally breaks loose and runs for two scores and 100 yards.. that’s right, he’s on my fantasy team as well.

Vikings @ Packers

Shannon- Packers – I shouldn’t be doing this, but I bet Brett will fail under so much pressure to win.

Brandon- Vikings – SKOL Vikings! Ok, so this is my personal pick. I grew up in Wisconsin, but I’m a diehard Vikings fan. Plus, if the Packers beat Favre at Lambeau Field, I’ll never hear the end of it from my Wisconsin buddies.

Panthers @ Cardinals

Shannon- Cardinals – Riding high after last weeks win over the Giants, Cards pummel the Panthers.

Brandon- Panthers – Cards are a pass happy team and Carolina is number one against the pass.

Falcons @ Saints

Shannon- Saints – I wanted to say Falcons, but I’m going with the home team.

Brandon- Saints – Gotta go with the Saints at home. This game should make for a great Monday night.

The real deal with Ashley Deihl

player05Posted by Matt Field

As I have been writing all week, Friday will give us our first look at the Philadephia Passion as they rumble with the New York Majesty. The league, players and coaches have been working hard to get the east vibe in place and the effort will show with Friday’s events and game. Philadelphia Passion player, Ashley Deihl took some time to talk about preparing for the season and shared a glimpse into her daily life as well. Enjoy the read.

Matt Field- Thanks for the time Ashley, let’s get some of the basic info done with right away. Why the Lingerie Football League?

Ashley Deihl- I’ve wanted to play football since I was a little girl. My daddy and I would always throw football in the front yard ever since I was six and when I wanted to play on the pee wee team he said “No way, you’re a girl, you can’t play football.” So when the opportunity came up to play for the LFL, I definitely couldn’t turn it down.

Matt- Has anything been a challenge as you get ready for game one?

Ashley- I absolutely love, love, LOVE to eat sweets! So eating healthy has been a huge challenge for me. I enjoy eating entirely too much.

Matt- Making it in the LFL is great accomplishment. What other accomplishments have you experienced?

Ashley- I’ve always been extremely competitive, so I have lots of accomplishments but one of the biggest would be that I’m a Two Time United States National Champion Speed Skater in five divisions.

Matt- Wow! That is awesome. What else should we know about you?

Ashley- Well, as I mentioned already, I love to eat. I am a meat and potatoes kind of girl. I enjoy cooking and baking. I am a total dork and keep things pretty simple and easy going.

Matt- Well, dork, have you been recognized as an LFL player?

Ashley- Yes, I have been recognized and it was extremely weird. I was doing some errands for my dad’s business and was delivering product for a potential buyer. A gentleman walked out of his office and was wanting his picture taken with me as well as my autograph. Afterwards, my dad asked how it went and wasn’t to pleased, so keep your fingers crossed that they buy my dad’s product!

Matt- Ha! Maybe that client will double his order. So, you are experiencing a bit of the celebrity life. Any celebrity crushes of your own?

Ashley- I have a need for speed! If he is fast enough to catch me, he wins. #12 knows who he is :-)

Matt- Besides this #12 guy, what are some of your other interests off the field?

Ashley- Auto Racing, four-wheeling, fishing – I’m an avid lover of extreme sports and the outdoors! I’m up for anything!

Matt- Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Ashley- I don’t even know where I’ll be in ten minutes let alone ten years! Haha I hope to have a beautiful life with that “fairy tale ending” but only time will tell!

Matt- Guilty pleasures?

Ashley- SWEETS! Have I mentioned anywhere in this interview that I love to eat?!?! Haha…it’s something I’m good at, what can I say?

Matt- With all that you have going on, what keeps you motivated?

Ashley- Living for the moment! I’ve lost a couple of people in my life that have made me realize that life is entirely to short to live for tomorrow or try and change the past. Be happy with what you have and always remember that no matter how bad things are, there is always someone in the world that has it worse than you.

Matt- What does Ashley Deihl bring to the game?

Ashley- INTENSITY – When we are on WE ARE ON and when we’re not, you still need to act like you are!! I get easily excited about things so when it’s time to bring it you better believe it’s gonna be brought!

Matt- Is there an NFL player that compares in style of play to your own?

Ashley- I’m the REAL DEIHL…no one has a playing style like me! Haha I didn’t necessarily say it was a good playing style though!

Matt- How important has the coaching staff been in getting the team ready?

Ashley- Our coaching staff is extremely dedicated! Coach Chandler Brown gets so damn excited when Offense runs an awesome play and goes for a touchdown that he runs right down the field behind her and then bear hugs everyone in sight. It’s great to have someone who is extremely influential in having a huge part in our mental attitude.

Matt- Lastly, your SuperBowl pick. I don’t think you need to pick your ‘brother’ team either.

Ashley- Well, I wish the best for the Eagles, but I do bleed black & gold. Go Steelers!

Matt- Thanks again for taking the time to chat.

Ashley- No worries, sorry I took so long to get back to you. You can hate me for it, I’ll understand. Ha ha!

KG talks integrity, character and leadership

n695072514_816887_6629They say that in life everything happens for a reason.  It has been extremely hard for me accepting that everything in life might have a reason but that I might not always know what that reason is.  Last year at this time I was struggling in a broken marriage and I began to use training for the Chicago Bliss team as an emotional outlet.  This week I was extremely disappointed and let down by someone I thought was my best friend and I’m training for my first game with New York Majesty that is in less then two days now.  I’m trying to learn an entirely new offensive system and coach has been building a really great new team.  Combining a team isn’t always easy.  Last year started challenging and the challenges have been one right after another for me.  It’s funny how life throws mountains in the road sometimes but through climbing those mountains I have learned a lot about my character and I have been pushed and climbed to my limits.  I have learned who I am and what’s important to me.  Now that I have embraced those hard times as primers to a better me it is easy to let the past go and I feel free because of it.

n695072514_822479_3740Where we work, who we are dating, what we wear, who are friends are, those are not things that define who we are.  When I played little league football and when I was in the military those leaders would say stuff like integrity, excellence and service to others is what defines character.  I understood what they were saying but I never challenged myself to really truly grasp the internal meaning of those things.  After the hardest year I’ve had in my life I finally get it now.  Character is what defines who we are.  Character is tested and built through the trials and every experience we have in life.  The choices we make define that character and it can help or hurt those we care for or that care for us the most.

Integrity in everything we do, A sincere heart, Pure intentions, a friendship, compassion, respect, and a willingness to always work through anything that comes at you in life, discipline, and a willingness to be humbled when its needed , those are things that are important to me.  All these things are what commitment is made of.  To me it takes all those things to be apart of any team.  A football team, a relationship, a friendship….I might not be the best at showing all of those traits at certain times but I’m going to continue to try and improve myself for the overall benefit of the group and I’m going to continue to seek that out in those that are brought into my life and that are continuously around me.  It has been a struggle for me, to continuously give of myself to others and sometimes I feel very worn thin. I have wanted to quit and walk away several times and laugh at people who fall on their face but i realized this week its not inside me to just not care like that.  I have grown to care for these people who I see potential in that may not have risen to it yet.  I will continue to search for that potential in them I just need to find a new way that they can relate to.  My dad told me a true leader always finds a way to see the greatness in others…I see that greatness in so many people in my life but it has been frustrating and disappointing to see them have opportunity after opportunity to rise to that greatness, and to make the right decisions which will bring them character growth.   “That’s the job of a leader,” my QB coach Corey says… to continuously take the fall for others and carry their weight in order to show them…they can do it too.

Halloween Eve scares up an east coast showdown

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

newpassion_11Written by Justin Trujillo

For the first time this season, LFL Friday Night is shifting its attention to the east coast as fans get to see two new teams play in an Eastern Conference rivalry as the Philadelphia Passion (0-0) travel to the home field of the New York Majesty (0-0).

Featured center stage in this match up will be the quarterback play by both teams. Philadelphia quarterback # 1 Jackie Danico is in the same position that Dallas Desire quarterback #12 Linda Brenner was in. They both have immensely talented teams and both have very deep rosters. The success of the team is not dependant on the play of the quarterback but she still needs to find ways to get the ball to her play makers.

Look for Danico to try and get the ball in the hands of running back #13 Tyra Lusby. She is a dangerous weapon and a dual threat running the ball and catching the ball. The Passion should key on match ups where Lusby is lined up against a linebacker. If Lusby can get into the open field, she can make things happen.

NY MajestyOn the flip side, the Majesty quarterback #1 Krystal Gray is going to have to be a playmaker. She is going to have to make accurate passes and timely throws to keep the Passion Defense on its heels. The Majesty have arguable the best offensive line in the league so Gray should have the time to make the pass. Success of the New York offense will be her burden to bear and with the help of wide receiver #3 Marie Nicole, the team has potential to have a potent offense.

A major challenge that the Majesty will also have to deal with is the schemes and the game plan of the Passion head coach Chandler Brown. Brown is highly respected around the league and is a very distinguished coach. He is aware of the coaching instability that New York has had and that within the past few weeks they have changed playbooks. He should develop a game plan that exploits New York’s inexperience in a new system and put pressure on new head coach for the Majesty Henry Racich who took over for Eric Mas.

Philly is coming in the clear favorites and New York should be ready for a tough battle. It should be an interesting game because both teams are trying to prove that the Eastern Conference is as good if not better than the Western Conference. This game should be a real treat for all LFL fans this Halloween weekend

Coaches Corner: New York Majesty head coach Henry Racich

NY-Majesty-150x1501All I can say is, WOW! I have been watching this league grow and change over the first weeks of this inaugural season and it has lived up to expectations on so many levels. This Friday night will be yet another new experience. We get our first look at the New York Majesty as they take on another first gamer in the Philadelphia Passion. The Majesty have experienced more than their fair share of adversity. A change in venue, a new coach and changes on the roster. The man that hopes to bring it all together took some time with Unlaced and shed some light on the coaching life in the LFL. I am glad to introduce New York Majesty head coach, Henry Racich. Enjoy the read.

Matt Field- First off, welcome to the Lingerie Football League coach. Now coach, you are coming into the season late. How has the experience been so far?

Coach Henry Racich- The experience coming in to this team so late has been an incredible challenge. First of all they have a shell shocked attitude from the door. They have been through a lot in the past 11 months and I have been dealing with the “baggage” the entire time. I have to put in 3 months worth of install into 3 weeks and time is not our friend. The girls are working very hard though and I am an optimist about this team. We will surprise a few people this season I am sure.

Matt- Sounds like the team has talent, but wasn’t properly prepared. Where was the team at in that regard?

Coach Racich- Honestly Matt the team was in complete disarray. They lacked discipline, structure and leadership. Like I said, a huge challenge. They do have athletes though and many of them are driven to be better every day. Once again I am optimistic.

Matt- What has been the biggest focus as you prepare for Friday’s game?

Coach Racich- My biggest focus is the offense. I had to evaluate, get a playbook in place, install systems, find facilities, and bond the girls all in a very short time period.

Matt- How has the transition been from coaching men to coaching women?

Coach Racich- Well I have coached women before so I was semi prepared for the transition. Women take things very personally where men do not. Men do not have thin skin like the ladies do. It is a world of difference coaching women.

Matt- I spoke to your quarterback, Krystal Gray, and it seems you are meeting expectations with her and the other players, Krystal had this to say, “Coach Henry is a professional and has done the best job possible. He took over this team two weeks ago and has turned us into a professional football team.” What are your expectations of the players?

Coach Racich- My expectations for my players are as follows. Get better today than you were yesterday.I expect hard work and trust in the player next to you. I expect total dedication and loyalty to this club. My favorite saying when it come to coaching is “pressure burst pipes or makes diamonds which are you gonna be” . In short I expect diamonds !! I expect my girls to shine on game day.

Matt- Finally, share a little bit about your background and experience.

Coach Racich- My coaching back round is at all levels youth, high school, semi pro  and college. I have been coaching for 20 years now. I have won 13 championships at all levels. Most recently was the past season winning the Colonial Football Alliance championship for the5ht year running. I started a league six (6) years ago in the minor league world that has grwn to 18 teams form NY to NC. more can be found at www.conshohockensteelers.com . check under coaches corner for details.

Matt- Thanks again for the time coach and good luck on Friday.

Coach Racich- Thanks Matt.

Jersey sweetheart, Jamie Diamond chats with Unlaced

This Friday night’s game between the Philadelphia Passion and the New York Majesty will give us our first look a both teams in action. The Passion come into the game ranked number two in the power rankings. Without having played a single game yet, Philly has a target on their backs. New York will ready to prove they are better than their rank and knocking off the Passion would make believers of many.

Today Jaime Diamond, quarterback of the Passion chats with LFLUnlaced.com. Enjoy the read.

Matt Field- Thanks for taking the time to share with us today. How did you first get involved with the LFL?

Jaime Diamond- I saw a commercial on TV approximately two years ago about the Lingerie Bowl during the Half-time of the Superbowl, so I looked it up on the internet, and I messaged Heather Theisen from the LFL to find out more info.  At the time the closest team to me being I live in Trenton NJ, was the New England Euphoria in Boston Mass.  I kept up with when/where tryouts were on the Myspace website, and the day finally came!  I woke up at 4am and drove 5hrs. all the way to New England.  I did awesome at tryouts, and got a phone call on my way home from Heather Theisen stating that I had made the team!  I was so excited!

Matt- It must been so cool to get that call. Now that you have made the team, what have been some of the challenges of LFL life?

Jaime- My biggest challenges were pretty much fitting everything into my schedule.  Football practice, gym workouts, running a business, family time, etc.

Matt- With all of that you have going on, what keeps you motivated?

Jaime- What motivates me is knowing that this is an experience of a lifetime and between the 2 tryouts (New England Euphoria & Philadelphia Passion) that I attended, I beat out approx. 125 other girls to make the starting 14 girls on the Philly Passion Squad.

Matt- Have you been approached or recognized as a LFL player?

Jaime- I have been approached several times! LOL!  The first time I was walking to my shop, and this guy was running after me saying, “Hey aren’t you the girl that plays in the LFL for the new Philly Team”,  a couple other times I have had people come to my shop just to see me, knowing that I am a player for the Philly Passion.

Matt- Worst pick-up line or attempt you have endured?

Jaime- This little guy,(I say little b/c he was shorter than me and I am only 5′1″) came up to me while I was working at a bar, and he said “Damn gurl you are fine as hell, Im bout to bite you”!

Matt- I’m guessing you didn’t fulfill his request. Do you have any NFL or celebrity crushes?

Jaime- Honestly, I dont have a crush on any pro sports stars.  I will say David Beckham(soccer) and Kelly Slater(surfer) are hot as hell!

Matt- Is there any NFL player that compares in style of play to your own?

Jaime- I would compare myself to Deion Sanders for my overall athletic ability and being able to play both sides of the ball very well.  I have great speed, agility, hands, and versatility!

Matt- So your a great football player, what else can you do better than the boys?

Jaime- Growing up I was a tomboy and played with all the boys so I definitely know that I can hang with the boys in pretty much everything!  Softball/Baseball, swim, surf, skateboard, snowboard, rollerblade, ice skate, dance/breakdance, fish, change a car tire, oil, etc.

Matt- Tell us a few of your great accomplishments so far in life.

Jaime- I have a few accomplishments that are important to me…
Graduating college, purchasing my first home, opening a business, completing a Triathlon, and making not only 1 of the teams in the LFL, but making 2!

Matt- What does Jaime Diamond bring to the game?

Jaime- I bring 110% effort to the field every time at every position that I play! That being QB, CB, and Special Teams!  I am a Captain, and I take that seriously!  I take it as an honor to be a Captain for the first team in Philly of LFL’s first season!  I have been a Captain of many teams growing up!

Matt- How about off the field? What are some of your interests?

Jaime- My interests off the field are spending time with my family, helping people, working out, surfing and snowboarding, playing any sport.

Matt- Guilty pleasures?

Jaime- I love sweets!  Cookies, cakes, icecream, etc.  I eat very healthy, but I do not deprive myself from the things that I love/enjoy!

Matt- Let’s wrap up with five things that the fans should know about Jaime Diamond.

Jaime- Five things that all fans should know about me, is that I am a major athlete, I put in 110% effort every time I step on the field, I am a leader on and off the field, I am very competitive, and under all the toughness I am a true Jersey Sweetheart!

Matt- Finally, your SuperBowl pick?

Jaime- I would love to see the Eagles or the Jets win the Super Bowl this year!  And the Philly Passion is bringing the Lingerie Bowl Championship home!

Love can be so frustrating sometimes.  There are so many levels of love and so many different ways you can love that it is easy to get confused.  Being pretty young at only 24, I have had the opportunity to be in love so many different ways.  Love is scary to me because when I fall I have no control over how hard or how fast I fall and generally falling hurts.  I have loved being in the military, I have loved playing sports, I have loved friends that have come and gone and I have been in love with some great people.

I got married young because I found someone who was my best friend and I didn’t want to chance not having that person in my life forever.  Going through all the struggles marriage brings has challenged me to love in so many ways that sometimes I really can’t fathom.  Going through a divorce has done the same.  It’s not easy to take all the anger and hostility you feel towards someone you loved so deeply at one point in time and admit to them they are what’s best for your child, especially because generally at that point in time you honestly believe that person isn’t what’s best for you.  It’s hard to look that person in the face that you promised to go through everything with and tell them you found someone else you’d rather work through life with.  It’s hard to admit to that person that where they are lacking something someone else has filled the void.  It takes a lot of love to bare your soul enough to someone it didn’t work out with and tell them all the ways you are selfish and all the ways you were wrong in your decisions and actions.  Most people want the people it doesn’t work out with to think everything is  perfect picture just to spite them.  It takes a lot of love to let someone go because you can recognize that you are tearing each other apart and you know someone else could be so much better to them.

Love is not about games to me.  I love the game of football but I am even passionate about football.  It is not always easy and there has been a lot personally and as a team to overcome.  Football is difficult enough to begin with but then to be a part of building A team brings so many challenges and its easy to question why I am a part of it.  The answer is simply found in the fact that I am passionately in love with football.  I searched out and recruited some of the best athletes I know.  I have not always been good at expressing to them the way I feel for them but it took a lot of love to be a part of deciding who would fit the core of the team and who wouldn’t.  How do you ultimately decide who fits and who doesn’t?  I had to remain faithful to the image of the Brand.  Yes to play on our team you had to be Beautiful (I tried to look inside and out), but you had to be athletic, talented and most importantly dedicated.  That is what builds real love.  Commitment. I saw something in each of our team mates that attracted me to believing they were worth being a part of something I am so passionate about.  I saw commitment.  If the league asked us to practice twice a week, we practiced twice a day.  If a practice center didn’t work out, we practiced anywhere outside, if it was raining, freezing cold or sweating hot, if there where airplanes flying over our heads we practiced.  If we fought, if we didn’t see eye to eye, we all continued to show up.  There are girls that drive from hours away, that moved from different states, to keep playing.  We have never walked out on each other during any team “fights”.  WE have been fighting together since day one to make it up the mountain pre seasons always bring.  The forming of the team, the conditioning of the team, the survival of the team, there has always been commitment.  That is a choice every girl continues to make.  They show up.

I honestly believe that some people quit on the things they love to easy because loving isn’t easy.  It is hard to love someone or something for their imperfections.  It is hard to get to a point where you can say this is the way it is but I love it anyways and it is beautiful that way.  Our new coach told me adversity builds character.  To those that character means something to, Id suggest trying to love someone or something the way it is and make the choice to understand nothing in this entire world is perfect but the rewards are worth it.  All we can do is lay our hearts out there continuously and embrace the struggle as the stairs to the reward.  The Lingerie Football League requires dedication but even more it requires loyalty through fighting commitment.  Being on the ground level of an entire new league even from just a player point has been a fight because when you love something you have to fight for it.  Everything will try to get in the way of successful happiness.  I am learning this year that is what I’m looking for in romantic love as well. Loyalty through fighting commitment knowing I could really have something with someone who could give back only what I expect and deliver myself. I don’t know who will wind up on our team, in this league or in my love life but I will say to them, I’m here…dedicated to you, fighting for you, learning to really love you and I appreciate all the work you’ve done.

Game Day Pain- Britainie DeGarbott

5453_127482120683_646350683_2949437_7946973_nSo, what are the odds that i would get injured several days before the biggest game of the season you ask??
Apparently they are amazing, because it happened to me…

So, im sitting here in the lobby with my team having breakfast, jokes are flying, my girls are grabassing left and right, having a great time here in Dallas. All i can think of is the pain. I cant run without intense pain, haven’t been able to since it happened. I usually lay in bed at night and in the morning doing mind-reps. Running routes, catching passes, fakes, jukes, great runs, body position, taking hits….all in my imagination. They are very important to me. Needless to say im not nearly as successful trying to do them now because i put the injury into the equation. I cant seem to finish the play in my mind. I don’t know the severity of it and its a double edged sword. Part of me thinks,”Ill be fine, R-I-C-E and time, ill be fine” but in the back of my mind I wonder if playing in this game will put me out for the season. Im connecting with the pain and the fear, embracing it, expressing it.

There is an old school of thought that you have to play with an injury to show that you’re tough and strong. That is pride, and that is ego. What good am i to my team if im hurt? Thats who I play for, thats who I care about. Pretending that you’re not hurt and disconnecting yourself from your body and your fear when you go out on that field does not make you the best athlete, its a defense mechanism. Acknowledging the pain, and admitting to yourself your emotions yet walking out there on that gridiron anyway…those were my heroes growing up.  I have no idea what will happen tonight, so your going to have to watch for yourself and see. The unknown….that’s football
