Los Angeles Temptation wins Lingerie Bowl VII

Monday, February 8th, 2010

4928_531350707025_26400902_31402372_5005785_nShades of the 2007 New England Patriots were eerily on display Super Bowl Sunday in South Florida as the Chicago Bliss were upset by Los Angeles following an undefeated season. The thousands in attendance and the millions that watched tonight were expecting the Bliss to continue their championship run behind their power run game and a solid 85 Bears-like defense.

The LFL season culminated with perhaps one of the best games of the season with two heavy-weights that had each other on the ropes from the opening kickoff as the camera bulbs flashed. The Bliss wasted little time completing a touchdown pass on a reverse to Kat Johns at the 16:06 mark of the 1st half going up 7-0. Having watched a lot of film on Chicago, Temptation Nation understood they could not afford to fall behind early and responded with a ball-control drive that was capped by Game MVP Ali Eastlake’s touchdown run at 13:34 notching up the game at 7-7. Chicago responded with a clock-eating drive  that included a lot of Tasha ‘The Tank’ Pryor, the drive was finished off by The Tank with a TD run at 9:50 giving Chicago a 14-7 lead. Then Ali came back at Frasier with Los Angeles responding with yet another balanced attack drive that was masterfully handled by Eastlake and capped with a Monique Gaxiola touchdown run at 4:12 mark but failed on a crucial extra point making the score 14-13. After the LA score, Chicago made a run before the half getting the ball inside the Los Angeles 2yard line with a First & Goal. Luckily for LA there is a lot of film this season on The Tank and Chicago’s short yardage offense. Temptation’s defensive coordinator Tui Suiamona licked his chops and barked at his All-Fantasy linebackers Monique Gaxiola and Michele Jacot to key on The Tank. Chicago tried running The Tank in on multiple plays and were shut down on perhaps the key turning point in the game.

Opening the 2nd half, both defenses really settled down and shut down the offensive fireworks of the 1st half. Chicago’s Deborah Poles and Monique Gaxiola shined leading their defenses with a final 17 minutes to a Lingerie Bowl championship on the line. Chicago struggled getting any offense going with a playbook that was well scouted by Los Angeles which included sweep runs and screen passing. LFL’s Offensive Player of the Year Saran Dunmore despite her incredible regular season numbers could not shake the multitude of LA defenders in the backfield on almost every play. Chicago was simply dominated up front giving Cartabiano little time to find receivers down the field, she was often face-first into the turf including a key Reese Mathews sack at the 2:32 mark that turned the ball over on downs to Los Angeles. The tide turned following the Mathews sack as Temptation Nation drove right down the field with a final nail in the Bliss coffin coming at the 1:36 mark with another Eastlake touchdown run making the score 27-14.

Chicago tried rallying with a final minute drive but once again stalled inside the Los Angeles 5yd line, leaving a total of 14 points on the field on the night.

Despite the Bliss’ magical undefeated season run, the night belonged to Temptation Nation who simply appeared more prepared and determined to win the Lingerie Bowl championship. Tinseltown will certainly be rocking tonight as Los Angeles’ only pro football team has won on football’s biggest stage.

Temptation Nation routs Seduction, 53-0

col_per2Under a full moon at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum stood a huge crowd hungry for the return of pro football to the LA area. Temptation Nation cheered throughout the game as Los Angeles dominated early and ofter behind the most impressive defensive exhibition of the season.

Game MVP, Ali Eastlake passed for three touchdowns to her favorite target, Britainie De Garbott. Eastlake also ran for a touchdown as LA went into halftime with 39-0 lead. San Diego was completely out-matched at the line of scrimmage with intimidating play by the Temptation front three, led by linebackers Michel Jacot and Monique Gaxiola.

The bleeding did not stop in the second half as LA padded their lead with an Eastlake TD run and back-up quarterback Joey Davenport’s TD pass with :17 seconds left. Although the offensive display was the biggest of the year, the most impressive element was a Temptation defense that played possessed and determined to maintain the shutout.

Los Angeles’ 53-0 win propels them to the Western Conference playoffs in South Florida with a battle against the Dallas Desire. These two teams last played each other on October 23rd in Dallas. It was a game that came down to the final minutes and a Dallas 24-12 victory.

Dallas lives up to their number one ranking

Dallas shows why they are the pre-season number one. Taking care of business in a victory over Denver, 20-6.

Dallas DesireThis weeks addition of Friday Night Football brought the Denver Dream into Dallas for the Desires home opener. A game that was expected to match up the two best teams in the Western Conference turned into a one sided match as Dallas took care of business behind the running of #16 Crystal London by winning 20-6.

Dallas opened the game by running the ball with Crystal and Denver could never really find an answer to her hard running. Quarterback #12 Linda Brenner of Dallas was not very successful at passing the ball but it did not matter because all of the Desires points came from running plays. Dallas will need to step up its passing game down the road if they want to complete with the best in the west but they proved they could establish a tough running game. The Desire played hard the entire game, used their size to their advantage and controlled the pace and game clock by running the rock.

Denver on the other hand could not get its offense going. A week after a heart breaking loss to Los Angeles in Denver, they traveled to Dallas looking to put up more points in the second half, which they fail to last week and play better defense. Quarterback #4 Erika Trujillo looked early in the game for Wide Receiver #13 Lindsey Fields but several long dropped passes prevented the offense for making any progress and putting points up in the first half.

The Desire defense was able to contain the potentially high-flying Dream offense that features some of the most talented offensive players in the league the entire game. The Dream’s offense features a passing first and running second mentality and Head Coach Allen Watkins played true that. Dallas focused on that and contained the sweep running plays by Denver and was able to contain the pass with help of the mental lapses by the Denver Wide Receivers.

Dallas took a confident half time lead of 13-0 at half and sent a message to the league that Dallas is deserving of the #1 power ranking with #14 Shannon A’Se hit on Trujillo as she got the pass off prior to half. Tempers got heated after the exchange and it carried into the second half when Dallas running back #7 Annie Haner had a tussle with some of the Denver players and coaches. Haner would later go on and have a very unsportsmanlike interview but plenty of emotion was left on the field during the game.

All was not lost for Denver however, they found something’s to build on as it plays on the next Friday Night Game versus Seattle. Running back for Denver #12 Shannon Martin had a successful game on the ground when she was given the ball. Shannon was able to move the chains and have enough speed to keep the Dallas defenders off balance when given the opportunity. Denver also found that #5 Rebecca “BK” Main has the chance to make some plays in a ‘Wildcat’ type formation. Look for Denver to find more ways to get those two playmakers along with the passing of Trujillo the ball in the future. However this night, the lack of completing passes, the Desire running game, solid defense by Dallas and lack of fundamentals by Denver really prevented them from making the game any closer.

Dallas next plays again October 16th as the Desire travel to San Diego to take on the Seduction. Denver plays their last home game of the season and their third game on October 9th as the Seattle Mist travels to the Mile High City on the next night of Friday Night Football.

Britainie De Garbott leads Temptation to a comeback win over the Denver Dream

LA TemptationWhat a game ladies and germs! The Los Angeles Temptation win in comeback fashion, final score 26-20. Denver had the game in control going into the half with a 20-6 to lead. I guess we need to credit some half time adjustments as the Temptation came out with a fire on defense and a running game powered by Britainie De Garbott. Brit took the ball into the endzone twice after halftime and the defense shut Denver down, not allowing a point in the second half.

That is the short version. Check back for updates.

Great game ladies! LA wins 26-20 over Denver.

L-L-Lindsey and the Mist defeat San Diego 20-6

Seattle Mist_New_w

On Friday night the San Diego Seduction faced off against the Seattle Mist in what could have been called the “Lindsey Blaine Show”. Her breakout performance on offense and defense allowed the Mist to easily brush past the Seduction 20-6. Blaine led her team on both sides of the line with 2 Touchdowns and 5 tackles. This was a battle fought on the ground. Both teams definitely need to work on their passing game, with less than 20 yards combined through the air.

As the game progressed, I started to notice two things that I didn’t expect. 1) The massive turf burns the girls were getting. Huge circles of shiny, bright red skin started showing up on more and more players. I can remember getting them during my playing years. My sympathy goes out to those women for the pain they will be experiencing, days after the adrenaline wears off. 2) The girls were also constantly adjusting their uniforms and covering exposed body parts. But I suppose that should be expected when playing full contact football in your underwear.

Overall, the game encompassed everything I look for in great entertainment. There was an abundance of stunning women in expertly tailored, curve hugging uniforms, more than a few hits that could easily knock your wind out, and near constant trash-talking and taunting (it is legal in the LFL) that reminds me of pick-up games at the local park. My final thought can really only be summed up in three simple words. Best. Idea. Ever.
